Downtown Line Brings Singapore International Photography Festival to Commuters

26 September 2016 – Commuters on the Downtown Line (DTL) can now appreciate photography while in transit in selected stations that are transformed into photo galleries for Singapore International Photography Festival 2016 (SIPF).

SIPF is a non-profit biennial festival which strives to provide a platform for Southeast Asian artists to showcase their works alongside their international peers at various venues such as arts galleries, arts spaces and education institutions.

This year, SIPF launched an event for the community through new spaces, to reach out to non-art goers.

As parts of efforts to encourage the public to appreciate photography, SIPF are working with Moove Media to use six Downtown Line (DTL) stations – Beauty World, Botanic Gardens, Bugis, Little India, Newton and Rochor, to feature selected photographs taken by various international and local photographers as wall stickers.

Commuters in the stations are able to appreciate the photographs while in transit.

Journalists from newspapers, magazines and online sites had a tour at DTL Rochor and Bugis stations before heading over to National Library Board for the official launch.

Mrs Jayne Kwek, CEO of Moove Media, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to be part of the Singapore International Photography Festival to showcase some of the works of various artists in our Downtown Line stations as alternative gallery venues. I believe these works will enliven our stations; offering commuters an opportunity to appreciate the works while going about their daily commuting.”

The photo exhibition on DTL ends on 15 November 2016.
